Schertle collaborated with illustrator Jill McElmurry to create Little Blue Truck, a friendly pick-up truck with a variety of animal friends. She has won a number of honors, including the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award and the Christopher Award. Schertle has also published several collections of poetry. As a children's book author, her works "explore themes of nature and language, often with playful use of rhyme." Schertle worked for a time as an elementary school teacher. Oh, and did I mention most of her books are self-published e-books that usually cost about five bucks on Amazon? Her refreshing new approach to the genre has drawn jaded former fans of historical romance back to the realm of ripped bodices and declarations of undying love. After publishing her debut novel in 2010, former law professor Milan has since reinvigorated the genre and won several awards for her work. ![]() Pardon me, she doesn’t “perfect” it-she bulldozes over tired tropes and constructs something complex and wonderful out of the ruins. Unraveled is what happens when Courtney Milan perfects the historical romance novel. ![]() ![]() ![]() I could overlook that if the story was descent- but there isn’t much here for me to recommend. This is not an ARC copy, so I was surprised to find several glaring grammatical errors in the book, early on- especially as the book has a seasoned publisher. ![]() ![]() This debut thriller is pretty rough around the edges.
